Committee Summary
Welcome to the United States Senate! As we celebrate 250 years of stars and stripes, what better way to honor this milestone than to dress up as fellow senators and argue. This committee will take you to the US Senate in 2026, where we discuss issues that will shape the nation’s future.
For this committee, delegates will be given two topics: social media regulations and the rise and regulation of peptides in the US pharmaceutical market.
For Topic A, delegates will navigate the prevalence social media has in our youth, from dropping attention spans to increased connection. Each senator (and their state) has a unique perspective on this issue, but must work together on the federal level to decide what is best for the next generation.
GLP1s, Reta, and the barbie peptide? Oh my! For Topic B, delegates must address the rising popularity of peptides, a new trend that is sweeping the nation (and TikTok shop), and determine how to move forward with either FDA approval, or the risk of a large black market.
These topics will allow delegates to analyze many different benefits and risks the Senate will have to deal with (soon). I look forward to hearing creative solutions and proposals!
MEET THE CHAIR
KATE FERENCHICK
Esteemed Delegates,
Hello! My name is Kate Ferenchick, and I am so delighted to be your chair for the General Assembly of the U.S. Senate at BruinMUN. I am a senior Political Science major and History minor, hoping to go into governmental work or law post-grad. I was raised right outside of Philadelphia (Go Birds!), but I love being in Los Angeles :) Outside of Model UN, I am in Kappa Kappa Gamma, write articles for two of UCLA’s political review clubs, and honestly watch A LOT of history YouTube videos (shout out John Green). I also enjoy reading, cooking, and traveling. I studied abroad in Madrid Fall 2025, and I had one of the best experiences of my life, so feel free to ask me about it in committee.
As I said, I enjoy studying politics, and I was searching for a club that would combine my educational passion while growing my diplomatic and public speaking skills. After doing speech and debate club throughout high school and loving it, I found Model UN in my college sophomore year. From the first tryout, I knew this was my place at UCLA (cliche but true)! Since then, I have been fortunate enough to travel across the country with the team and staff at LAMUN last year and this year. Model UN has been an amazing experience for me, as I get to meet like-minded people, practice my speaking abilities, and now get to chair for you all!
I am thrilled to introduce this topic, the General Assembly of the United States’ Senate. In relation to our generation and the modern-era, we will be discussing social media regulations as well as the rise of peptides and the future implications. These topics allow delegates to navigate two real-world controversies in the context of our current U.S. senate. I can not wait to hear the policies, viewpoints, and of course, the doomscrolling/Clavicular jokes throughout the conference in November!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or clarifications, whether it is about my background and time at UCLA, or the topics itself. I am excited to meet you all!
Best,
Kate Ferenchick | Chair, The United States Senate | BruinMUN 34
