Chair Letter

Dear Delegates,

My name is Mathilde Hebras (she/her) and it is my pleasure to be your Chair for the Dutch Tulip Bulb Market Mania at BruinMUN 33.

I am a senior at UCLA majoring in International Development Studies with a minor in Professional Writing, hailing from all parts of the US (but mainly Orange County, CA). I’ve always been interested in international affairs, and am currently applying for law schools, with the hope of working in a legal field related to foreign relations.

Despite being a true Mock Trial girl in high school, I joined MUN at UCLA as a first-year, and have loved every second of being part of this club. From staffing BruinMUN, to serving as USG of Crisis for our collegiate conference LAMUN, to traveling North America with our competitive team, this club has brought me some of my best memories in college. This year, I’m excited to serve as our club’s Director of Operations, while staffing our conferences and continuing to travel with my friends.

But enough about me! You all are in for a treat. Alli and I are ecstatic to welcome you to 1637 Holland, where you all will navigate an economic crisis unlike any other and get the chance to explore economic concepts in a space that will push your creative limits. Whether you’re interested in the stock market, or want to explore Holland’s rich history, The Dutch Tulip Bulb Market Mania is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!

CD Letter

Dear Delegates,

My name is Alli Fazis (she/her) and I will be your Crisis Director for Tulip Mania! I am a third year Pure Mathematics Major and Philosophy Minor. My goal is to go to graduate school and pursue a PhD in Mathematics, from there I’ll see where the wind takes me! On top of MUN I am a proud member of the Speech team here at UCLA as well as an athlete of any and all intramural sports.

Last year was my first year in MUN and I had the most amazing time ever. I was lucky enough to be a backroom crisis staffer at our college conference last year but this will be my first time participating in BruinMUN. I haven’t gotten the chance to compete on our travel team yet but I can’t wait to join this year! I have had the greatest time in MUN and am so thrilled to be able to hold the role of Crisis Director.

Ever since I learned about the Dutch Tulip Crisis in 7th grade from a silly little youtube video, I’ve been obsessed with the hilarious whimsy of it all. The Dutch stock exchange as a whole is a fascinating topic and I am so excited for you all to dive into it. Holland’s economy was by far the most advanced of its time and served as a blueprint for the modern economy we have today! I hope this committee teaches you more about the history of the stock market, so you can use your knowledge to understand a bit more about our economy today!

Model United Nations is one of the best parts of my college experience! Even though I have only been a part of it for a year, I have met some of my best friends and made some amazing memories in my time in this club. I am so excited for you all to be a part of this committee, and I hope you all have as much fun participating in it as I did planning it!
