Chair Letter
Hello Delegates,

My name is Leia Norton and I am thrilled to be your chair for the US Senate at BruinMUN 33! I am a third year Computational Biology and Statistics major from the wonderful New Jersey, as well as the Under-Secretary-General of Crisis for our collegiate conference, LAMUN. I am a bagel enthusiast and cheese connoisseur as well as a lowkey band and theater nerd. I spend my time listening to Italian jazz, embroidering, and watching video essays (open to recommendations). Otherwise, I can be found running a student theatre company on campus (shoutout Out of the Blue) and conducting research at the UCLA Health Cerebral Palsy Center.
In high school, I was an avid Model Congress delegate for both my own congressman and conferences in the northeast region, sparking my extended pleading to chair this committee. Even as a hardcore STEM kid, Model Congress conferences were always the highlight of my year. My favorite debate topics have been on technological regulation and climate change, which I am looking forward to exploring at BruinMUN this year in the US Senate. Coming into college, I wanted to keep up with public speaking and joined MUN at the start of freshman year. I decided to have a little fun with debate and became a crisis delegate which I am absolutely loving (highly recommend). I have found a family away from home within Model UN at UCLA from ice cream runs to all nighters during finals week. Staffing has no doubt been my favorite MUN experience so far and I am eager to chair for you all!
The United States Senate is a pivotal governing body of our country, representing each and every one of you as its constituents. It is imperative for you to represent the complete goals of your allocated state and work with your fellow senators to build solutions that will strengthen both your home state, and our nation. You will be debating topics currently pressing the American mind from artificial intelligence to the climate crisis– I look forward to seeing your unique and creative solutions to these issues. In this fast-paced simulation of our government, I am sure you will find this committee fruitful on the debate floor.
Please contact us with any questions, and I look forward to meeting you all!
See you in November,
Leia Norton | Chair, US Senate | BruinMUN 33

P.S. Please read the Rules and Procedures in the Background Guide for this committee very carefully!

Hello Delegates!

My name is Tristan Huntley and I’m honored to serve as your Crisis Director for the U.S. Senate ECOSPEC at BruinMUN 33! By the time you’re reading this, I’ll be a second-year student at UCLA, double majoring in Political Science and English. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and I’ve spent most of my life surrounded by the dynamic energy, diversity, and culture that this city brings. It’s a backdrop that shaped both my love of storytelling and my passion for public service.
This is my first time Crisis Directing, and I’m beyond excited to take on this role. I joined UCLA Model United Nations during my first year and have loved every second of it. I started out as a backroom staffer for BruinMUN 2024 and later served as a DAIS staffer for the “Shrek Rebels” committee at LAMUN. The creativity and cooperation that MUN demands is what keeps me coming back. I love writing, crafting stories, and watching delegates run with them. Outside of MUN, you’ll find me hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains, going to concerts, and being with friends. I’m also a Bruin Ambassador and spend time working on political campaigns in LA.
The United States Senate stands at the center of American governance, serving as the voice of the states and the people they represent. In this committee, you will take on the role of a senator, balancing the interests of your assigned state with the needs of the nation as a whole. You’ll be asked to navigate partisan divides, broker crucial deals, and push forward bold legislation on the most urgent issues facing the country from artificial intelligence to the climate crisis. This fast-paced, high-stakes simulation is designed to challenge your creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. I can’t wait to see the thoughtful, innovative solutions you bring to the table.
This committee is meant to challenge you! But it’s also meant to be a blast. I’m here to help you make it as memorable, exciting, and impactful as possible. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Excited to meet you,
Tristan Huntley | Crisis Director, U.S. Senate ECOSPEC | BruinMUN 33
