Committee Summary

The LA Olympics Committee will grapple with some of the most pressing questions that Olympic planners are facing today. Delegates will explore issues of public policy and the future of Los Angeles as members of the Olympic City Council.

Members of this committee will be expected to tackle some of the most vital issues Olympic planners are currently facing.

How will Los Angeles increase and update its transportation infrastructure without overspending and exceeding deadlines? Is the city also responsible for the workers building all the Olympic locations, dealing with the transport and servicing of the hotels and of the Games themselves? With the opening ceremony drawing near, officials must face the tension of simultaneously creating job opportunities, fulfilling the needs of the public, listening to the demands of labor and considering the political atmosphere of the Games.

Delegates from city agencies, labor organizations, transportation authorities, private construction firms, community groups and various stakeholders will be forced to reconcile conflicting needs in response to the challenges that come with making a global city ready for a major event of immense magnitude. Their success is far from guaranteed; all decisions come with implications.

The clock toward 2028 has begun. Whether the 2028 games are considered a success or a failure is now a question for the delegates.

MEET THE CHAIR

ILEESHA GARG

Hello, Delegates,

My name is Ileesha Garg and I am thrilled to be your chair for Los Angeles Olympic City Council at BruinMUN 34! I am a second year Physiological Sciences major from the Bay Area.

Outside of committee, I enjoy reading, exploring Los Angeles with friends, and finding new coffee shops around the area. Since joining Model UN last year, I have found an incredible community of people who are passionate, driven, and amazing friends. Some of my favorite college memories have already come from conferences and the people I’ve met through this club.

As members of the Los Angeles Olympic City Council, you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of a city preparing to host arguably the largest international event in the world. While the Olympics bring excitement and opportunity, they also present complex challenges to local communities. I encourage you to approach these issues thoughtfully, collaborate with one another, and think creatively when developing solutions.

Whether you are an experienced delegate or attending your first conference, I hope you take advantage of every opportunity to speak, negotiate, and push yourself. I look forward to seeing the ideas you all bring to committee. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. I cannot wait to meet you all in November!

Best,

Ileesha Garg | Chair, Los Angeles Olympics City Council | BruinMUN 34
