Chair Letter
Hello!

My name is Prisha Narasimhan (she/her) and I’m extremely honored to be your chair for the THE Bretton Woods Conference, 1944! I am a third-year at UCLA, double majoring in Economics, Statistics and Data Science and minoring in Global Studies. On campus, I am also involved with the United Nations Association chapter at UCLA and JAC (anime club). In time, I hope to pursue a career in foreign service or (in general) a career involving international relations and data analytics. I love to paint, cook, binge tv shows (Derry Girls, Brooklyn 99, Parks and Rec, One Piece, etc.), watch the Olympics, play piano, and play MarioKart and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (on the ancient Wii though).
I have participated in MUN since my freshman year of high school back in the Bay Area (to be a bit more specific, a suburb in the East Bay). My experience in MUN began as I wanted to face my struggles with public speaking and learn to articulate my thoughts into words. Over the years, I found myself engaged and fascinated by the thoughtful and substantial conversations about ongoing and past global events/conflicts with fellow delegates. I enjoyed (oddly enough, I suppose) developing a rather extensive research process to help me prepare for each conference (I always created a country profile for every nation/character I have represented). Here in Model UN at UCLA, I’ve previously chaired the Novice IOC at BruinMUN 31, and this past LAMUN, April Uprising, 1876!
In July 1944, as World War II neared its end, the Allied nations convened in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, to reimagine the postwar economic order. This conference was one of the most consequential negotiations in modern history, as it led to the birth of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and a stable international currency system. As delegates, you all have the opportunity to navigate competing economic visions, think critically, and engage with ever-pressing topics such as exchange rates and international trade, employing your skills in diplomacy and negotiating. With this committee, I greatly look forward to a meaningful, creative, and thoughtful debate, and perhaps, as the you all shape the very foundations of international cooperation in this world order, a new vision will endure the test of time. I look forward to meeting all of you at BruinMUN and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Welcome to the Bretton Woods Conference!

CD Letter
Dear Delegates,

Hello! My name is Sofia Behzadi (she/her) and I am a third-year majoring in Computer Science and Engineering (think 70% computer science, 30% electrical engineering).
I’m a born and bred LA native (so I never got to escape LA public school) but my family hails from Bulgaria. In my (limited) free time I enjoy listening to the most generic pop music imaginable (yes I’m a Swiftie) and watching soccer (Manchester United supporter ‘till I die).
Outside of MUN I have been taken hostage by the engineering lifestyle, spending the vast majority of my time drowning in my course load and the rest of it in EE/CS organizations.
I didn’t join MUN until my junior year of high school, from which point on I competed in all the conferences (read: 2) my school attended every year. So, as one of the aforementioned two conferences, BruinMUN has always been close to my heart. I’ve spent almost all my time in crisis, as I started in it, tried GA once and never went back. Even here at UCLA I’ve exclusively worked with crisis committees. My freshman year I was a staffer (Medicis committee at BruinMUN and Mongol invasion of Korea at LAMUN, our college conference), before becoming a CD my sophomore year. I led the Hogen Rebellion for BruinMUN and the April Uprising for LAMUN - where I was actually co-senior staff with our wonderful chair, Prisha. So, being in a specialized committee now will be a new experience, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.
Speaking of our committee, the Bretton Woods Conference was not just another ordinary conference - rather, it was an attempt to heal from the economic damage of World War II, and ensure no country got left behind as the world transitioned into the modern era. As delegates to this conference, you will get the opportunity to work together to develop the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, or make completely different plans to promote worldwide economic success. Regardless of what you choose, I hope you’ll have fun making history whose effects can still be felt today.
See you all in November!
Best,
Sofia Behzadi
