General Assembly Plenary
Michael Carder
GAplenary@bruinmun.org
Dear Delegates,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to BruinMUN 2011’s General Assembly. My name is Michael Carder, as I will be your Head Chair for the conference. Considering I just began my junior year as an Economics major here at UCLA, this fall will mark the 7th year in which I have participated in MUN. Outside of participating on UCLA’s MUN Conferences and Travel Team, I play for UCLA’s Ice Hockey Team and am preparing for a career in business through UCLA’s undergraduate consulting organization, Bruin Consulting. Having chaired BruinMUN last year, I am sincerely looking forward towards this conference as I know how stimulating a well-researched and diplomatically active committee can be.
As the General Assembly, we have historically had the broadest scope of all committees within the United Nations. Given this, I hope to make your BruinMUN 2011 experience as enlightening and enjoyable as possible by giving you two topics that are fundamentally different, yet equally important to international politics. The first topic we discuss will be the situation in Libya, mainly concerning our implicit role in helping diplomatically assuage the hostile situation. We will follow debate on the subject with our second topic, alleviation of the global financial crisis. Having participated in MUN in high school and studied Economics in college, I know how valuable and fundamentally relevant it would have been to gain perspective on the international economy during an MUN conference. Accordingly, I hope that you can actively assess the status of the international economy and devise realistic, yet innovative solutions to help prompt economic stability around the globe.
I am very excited to act as your Head Chair for the conference alongside my Moderator, Apoorva Ananth, and my Director, Ryland Lu. Having been in your position three years ago as a delegate, I know the impact that a committee can have on your experience here at UCLA. Thus, I am more than happy to address any of your questions or concerns before the conference, so please email me at GAplenary@bruinmun.org if you need anything. Otherwise, I look forward to meeting you in committee and making this experience a memorable one.
Best,
Michael
