Letter from the Chair

Dear Delegates,
Welcome to BruinMUN 2018! My name is Arsal Zaheer, and I will be your Head Chair for the World Health Organization. This year the World Health Organization is poised to be a challenging and intellectually stimulating committee, and I look forward to the debate awaiting us this November.

I am a third year majoring in Economics and minoring in public health. Model UN has been a part of my life since my junior year of high school, and since coming to UCLA, I have competed on the college circuit in addition to staffing and chairing at conferences. As a Bay Area native, I hold a bias toward clean beaches, cool weather, and adequate public transportation.

The WHO will arguably be debating some of the most pressing and understudied contemporary issues in the global health sector. I am particularly excited to facilitate a committee which will require a nuanced understanding of the term “health” and its contributing factors. Come November, it is my goal for all of us to thoroughly appreciate the interplay between economics, politics, and health outcomes in global environments.

Congratulations on entering a committee which will undoubtedly be contentious, exciting, and fast-paced. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have.

Warm regards,
Arsal Zaheer | Chair
