Letter from the Chair:

Dear Delegates,
Welcome to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women at BruinMUN 2018! My name is Hetvi Doshi and I am honored to serve as your chair during this committee. I look forward to meeting all of you soon as well as hearing some intense debates on some interesting topics. Let me introduce myself a bit. I am a second-year international student from India studying Psychology with a minor in Cognitive Science. I went to boarding school the last two years of high school and I love traveling. I hope to work in the field of Artificial Intelligence with an emphasis in emotions and behavior. I have been doing MUN since my junior year of high school and this committee is very special for me because I chaired it in my senior year and have now gotten the opportunity to do so again at UCLA.

I am very excited to be chairing this committee and cannot wait to hear the intense debate and solutions you come with for topics particularly relevant for this century. MUN is an activity that I had to continue in college just because it provides space and time to think of practical solutions to real-world problems. The experience gained from public speaking, working with other delegates, having to be diplomatic goes a long way no matter what field we choose to pursue.

I am especially thrilled for this committee and the topics we have decided to put forth. UN Women is a committee whose needs are as pressing as those of other committees due to the humanitarian aspect. Furthermore, majority of illegal activities such as sex trafficking or forced labor and sexual abuse in refugee camps get overlooked because the overall times are considered peaceful. However, it’s these activities that define the overall progress of civilization as is any significant advancement taking place if there is a disparity between who can and can’t access it? These issues define the lives of millions and I would love for all of you to keep the devastating impact of these issues in mind while coming up with potential resolutions.

If you have any question regarding the committee, the conference, or Ucla in general, please feel free to contact me. I wish you the best in your preparation for this committee and I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Best,
Hetvi Doshi | Chair
