Dear Delegates,

Welcome to BruinMUN 2017’s first DISEC. My name is Anant Mahajan and I will be your chair! With relationships between major world governments deteriorating rapidly, and uncontrolled expanding armories, the DISEC is poised to be one of the most heated and interesting committees at BruinMUN this year. I look forward to seeing informed debate and creative solutions to the various problems the world faces in committee.

I was born in Kolkata, India and grew up in Dubai before coming to the United States for a higher education at UCLA. I’ve had a truly multicultural upbringing and enjoy interacting with people from all over the world. I love to travel, and have visited 15 countries so far. Currently, I’m a senior studying Computer Science here at UCLA. This is my third year chairing at BruinMUN, and my fourth year staffing the conference. This is my second time chairing the DISEC as it’s easily one of my favorite committees to staff, as well as to participate in. This will be my 7th year involved in Model UN, and probably my last, as I graduate this year. I hope to make my last BruinMUN a memorable one for you all.

As a Computer Science major, logic and teamwork are very important to me, and I love seeing them both utilized effectively inside the DISEC to solve real world problems. As an experienced ‘MUN-er’, I believe Model UN teaches a lot of important life skills such as cooperation, public speaking and networking. So whether it’s your first time at a Model UN or whether it’s your tenth, participate as much as possible so that you can reap the benefits this conference will provide you with.

The DISEC will be one of the most meaningful and entertaining committees this year, and I hope you will all learn and grow as a result of your participation. My dais and I would love to hear any questions you have, and you can reach us at the email provided on this letter. I look forward to meeting all of you and hearing your stances on the various interesting topics we have this year. I hope we have an interesting few days filled with thoughtful debate, meaningful interaction and fun (of course!).
